So not only does the media no longer perform their function of challenging power, but now banks no longer provide the function of taking deposits and making loans. The only thing making Deutsche Bank reluctant to shut down retail operations is that their logo on the high street keeps them in the hearts of the very taxpayers who will need to bail them out the next time the banking system tumbles.
