I just want you all to know that my Son Andy is home now and he is on what you call terminal leave until Dec. 30, 2010 and his actual enlistment will be over on that date. He has already joined an active reserve unit and is due to start that on Jan. 30, 2011. His actual plan is to go back to school and get his four year degree and then go attack the JOB WORLD. We are so thrilled to have him home at last and in one piece and BTW, Thank You Lord for returning him to us safely!!!
Although I am really pissed off at the Army for what they did to him, two days before he came home. He got a DUI on base in July 09, went to all their classes and had is driving privilege suspended on base for one year and soon after went to Iraq for a year! When he got back, he went to court on Nov. 3, they fined him $200, put him on a years formal probation and has to report to a Probation Officer here in California and to top the d*mn thing off, they revoked his North Carolina Drivers License for one year and DMV here in California honors the revocation. So that means he can't drive here for one year unless he gets a restricted license and that will take time. I know that it is against the law to drink and drive and I agree to stiff punishment, but why do this to a soldier that just gets back from fighting for his country and just three days from starting his civilian life again, this really sucks!!! I talked to the Jag Prosecutor, the Federal Public Defender, North Carolina DMV, and his supposed Probation Officer and got absolutely no where---ANY ADVICE WOULD BE WELCOMED

That is the biggest load of crap!!!! So basically he gets to have it suspended for two years instead of one because he was serving our country during the year it was to be suspended??? Now I've heard it all!!! For once in my life, I have no words!!! I'm sorry Manny...

Maybe a letter writing campaign to let them know we don't appreciate that type of treatment to a man protecting us. How about your senator and congressman too? Did you contact them?

I talked to the Jag Prosecutor, the Federal Public Defender, North Carolina DMV, and his supposed Probation Officer and got absolutely no where---ANY ADVICE WOULD BE WELCOMED I have all the respect in the world for your son. He has done so much for his country and all of us. War is hell and he has been affected by it in a big way. History has shown so many times over that someone coming back from war has many issues to deal with. Look at all the Viet Nam vets etc.etc. As much as I agree that it shi*s he has had his license revoked, if you look at it in another way, the court is going on the past history of so many other vets coming back, dealing with the horrors of war by drinking a lot, destroying their lives and possibly killing themselves and others by driving under the influence. If he uses this year of not being able to drive to work on issues he may have from the time he served overseas, he has a better chance of not drinking his life away and possibly hurting himself and/or others and having to live with that, too. Sometimes it's not so much the punches we get but how we deal with them that counts. I wish him only the best life can give him. tg (A Viet Nam era 'survivor' that has seen many of her friends destroy their lives and other lives because of the mix of war and alcohol)

I will pray for your son, but perhaps the dui is better to be looked at like a wake up call...perhaps it has saved him from something much worse. God Bless our troops.

thank God he is home and safe, but as far as how to get his driving mishap taken care of, I would go see,,,,,,,,,,,,,,yes, a lawyer........
Surely presidence has been set somewhere........good luck and like another caller stated, it might be a life saving experience, even though it is tough.

Hey Manny, did that Hero of a son sign up with the Reserves. I think you told us that that starts today. I think that's the bravest d*mn thing I've ever heard of; to experience Iraq and then sign up for a possible trip back to hell. I don't know 1 person who would go thru hell and back then sign up to do it again for his country. I know it ain't the paycheck.

My cousin is over there. He and two other soldiers were hit by an IED. My cousin survived, sadly the other two did not. He has lost his hearing and covered in shrapnel but says he is doing fine. Can you believe he wants to go back?
