Court order lifts guilty plea. PAGE D5 What's left of Enron Corp. has a new name, but the E-word is still part of it.
On Monday the company, which last month renamed itself Enron Creditors Recovery Corp., announced it had distributed another $1.9 billion to creditors, bringing the total to $11.5 billion.
Spokesman Harlan Loeb said the new name better describes what Enron does: distribute cash and stock to creditors and settle remaining claims and litigation. About 300 employees remain to handle those tasks, he said.
"It's just to reflect the status of the company, that it's in pure recovery mode," he said.
Nancy Rapoport, a bankruptcy law professor on sabbatical from the University of Houston Law Center, said such name changes aren't unusual with bankrupt companies.
"All that's really left is the shell," she said.
