TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Tuesday at midday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:
Toronto Stock Exchange (up 58.15 points at 14,331.52):
Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Precious metals. Up 39 cents, or 2.83 per cent, at $14.19 on 11,666,791 shares after the miner reported it has taken up an additional 13.3 million common shares of Meridian Gold Inc. (TSX:MNG). The gold miner now owns 90.8 million shares, representing approximately 90 per cent of the outstanding common shares of Meridian.
Shore Gold Inc. (TSX:SGF): Precious metals. Up 60 cents, or 12.58 per cent, at $5.37 on 8,308,365 shares.
SR Telecom Inc. (TSX:SRX): Communications and media. Down half a cent, or 20 per cent, at two cents on 7,975,700 shares.
Cinram International Income Fund (TSX:CRW.UN). Industrial products. Down $5.86, or 45.78 per cent, at $6.94 on 5,813,942 shares after the DVD and CD maker suspended distributions amid a proposed changes to its business.

Down seven cents, or 25 per cent, at 21 cents on 3,373,332 shares as it issued a $143.1 million loss for the first nine-months of the year, a dramatic 18 per cent loss from a year ago. It also wrote down the value of its troubled Jericho diamond mine in Nunavut.
Nortel Networks Corp. (TSX:NT). Industrial products. Up $1.65, or 10.83 per cent, at $16.88 on 2,846,269 shares as the company reported a third-quarter net income of US$27 million, up from a year-earlier net loss of $63 million. Revenue plunged eight per cent to US$2.70 billion from $2.93 billion because of the sale of Nortel's UMTS business.
Certicom Corp. (TSX:CIC). Industrial products. Down 29 cents, or 14.36 per cent, at $1.73 on 383,584 shares after warning its second-quarter revenue is expected to be "lower than what management believes are market expectations." The company, which reports in U.S. dollars, said it expects revenues to be in the range of $3.1 million to $3.5 million for the quarter ended Oct. 31.
Magna International Inc. (TSX:MG.A). Industrial products. Up $3.41, or 3.90 per cent, at $90.79 on 197,703 shares as the auto-parts maker reported a 65 per cent jump in third-quarter profit. Net income rose to US$155 million from $94 million in the prior-year period.
AbitibiBowater Inc. (TSX:ABH): Forestry. Down $1.78, or 6.50 per cent, at $25.62 on 53,413 shares after the newly-combined firm of Abitibi-Consolidated Inc. and Bowater Inc. reported it will launch a 30-day review of operations following the completion of its merger a week ago. Also, Abitibi-Consolidated issued a jump in earnings at $54 million, or 12 cents a share compared to a year-earlier loss of $48 million, 11 cents per share.
