Overstock.com Rated Best in Class for Holiday Shopping
Wednesday November 28, 3:35 pm ET
SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(MARKET WIRE)--Nov 28, 2007 -- Overstock.com's (NasdaqGM:OSTK - News) website topped all mass merchant retailers, according to a month-long series of bracketed, head-to-head performance tests culminating in the ultimate challenge on "Cyber Monday."

The tests, conducted by Gomez, Inc., the leading provider of on-demand web application experience management solutions, as part of its first "Merchant Madness Holiday Tournament," are designed to identify websites that are consistently responsive and available to shoppers. Of the 64 retailers in the competition, Overstock.com outperformed all others in the "Mass Merchant," bracket -- including Amazon.com, Nordstrom and J.C. Penney -- and ended the tournament with a strong second place overall ranking.
"We learned early on that a fast site creates happy shoppers, and happy shoppers buy more, and buy more often," said Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne. "From a business perspective, building a fast website has been a top priority, and it's very satisfying to see the results reflected in Gomez's performance testing."
The Merchant Madness finals, held on Cyber Monday, saw Overstock.com edged out by Blockbuster.com.
"Overstock and Blockbuster, while very different business models, got this far in the tournament as they evidently put their customers' experience at the very center of their website strategy, from site design through to reliable delivery at the end-user's desktop. We congratulate them both," said Matt Poepsel, Gomez's vice president of performance strategies.
