I was raised in a good family, and even though we were very poor, we were taught to always have an "attitude of gratitude". Since Thanksgiving is almost here, I thought it might be nice to remember the people and things that we DO HAVE, rather than focusing upon what isn't here yet.
My husband and I have struggled considerably since my husband's retirement income "just went away" with no warning over two years ago due to the economic downturn. Our income was cut in half, and we have had to learn how to pull together to even make the monthly bills, as it's been really tight.
Through our struggles, I have come to recognize that I am very grateful for the following:
I am thankful for a wonderful and humble husband who was willing to go back to work as a blue collar worker making only $9.50 per hour just to make the monthly bills, at the age of 72, after having had a successful career in the past...
I am thankful that when he prays over our dinner, he still remembers to say, "And thank you, God, for my wife..."
I am thankful for good health and a clear mind so that I perform my job, which enables me to give back to others in the community and who are struggling in the areas of anxiety and depression and marital problems (I am a clicensed mental health ounselor) due to the current economic pressures...
I am thankful that I can love on and cuddle with our (combined) 12 children, 17 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter...
I am thankful for the way our attitudes toward money have changed so that it is no longer something we have to have, but appreciate it when we do have it...
I am thankful for the support we have had from the people on this board who continue to keep our "hopers" alive and working...
If you are also thankful, please feel free to add to this thread as you see fit.
